Head Teacher's Message

I am hugely proud to be Head Teacher of Brays School. Our highly committed and caring staff, across both sites, ensure that the children receive the highest level of education and well-being.

We are proud of our pupils’ achievements and we provide all our pupils with a personalised education, using strategies known to promote communication and independence. We want our young people to have a love of learning and encourage them to become as independent as possible.

We value our excellent relationships with parents, carers and other visitors to school and work closely with them to share our combined knowledge and skills to help every child reach their potential.

Our School

Brays School now has two sites, one in Sheldon and the other in Tile Cross.

Brays School is a special day school. All pupils currently on role have a statement of special educational needs or an Education Health and Care Plan. We offer places across our sites for children with physical difficulties, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, autistic spectrum condition, specific communication difficulties, visual impairment, hearing impairment and multisensory impairment.

Our site in Sheldon educates children with physical needs, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, specific communication and learning needs, visual impairment and hearing impairment. Those with a combination of complex medical conditions and sensory level autism may also attend this site.

Our site in Tile Cross offers primary places for pupils across the full range of autistic spectrum conditions.

Parent Feedback

It is evident that the Drama sessions Mylo has participated in has built his confidence, ability to read facial expressions and express himself in many aspects of daily life. Mylo has told me that he likes Drama and he looks forward to planned Drama sessions. He used to be very shy and reserved, not really wanting to dance, act or sing but now he appears much more comfortable in his skin to participate in a song, even using his ukulele and doing this in front of his mirror. He can read some facial expressions, and this has helped behaviour outbursts be managed much more quickly than 12 months ago. He can also offer support when he sees a person that he is close to, is upset or in pain, which has helped develop empathy and understanding of others. Mylo is not great with fancy dress BUT even this has become something he will tolerate and the few times he has got into character for World Book Day he has become slightly more comfortable with this. Creativity can be something that we as parents really struggle to engage Mylo with, and I appreciate and value the opportunities that he has within his school as he is much more inclined to participate when with his peers. I hope the opportunities that Mylo has been given continue, as I feel it is an invaluable part of his and other children’s curriculum and has immeasurable benefits on each child.
